Shawn Vinson got started in the art business in 1991, working for a Florida-based art importer & dealer. He soon became their Southeast rep, covering Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and the Carolinas. and relocated to Atlanta in 1993. Shortly thereafter, he met Ruth Franklin, an English painter whose work he'd been selling. Ruth emigrated to America a year later and their partnership began. In 1998, they opened Decatur's first contemporary art gallery on the historic Old Courthouse Square. Shawn joined the board of the Decatur Arts Alliance and helped start the Decatur ArtWalk. The Vinson Gallery became a member of the Atlanta Gallery Association and was a popular destination on the square, presenting exhibitions by an eclectic roster of local & international artists. Since shuttering the bricks & mortar space in 2008, Vinson has worked as an art consultant for private & corporate collectors, healthcare facilities, and Georgia Film & Television productions. VINSONart produces pop-up art shows and art events throughout metro-Atlanta, and continues to offer a unique mix of original art & professional art services.
